As a leading local language lifestyle and news channel, ONUA TV, part of the Media General Group, required a modern and dynamic studio. The planned new studio design would feature an ultra wide video surround videowall powered by a media server that allows for content segmentation, display knotting and digital scenic builds.

However, with only 5 days to the scheduled use of the new studio at the time of project initiation, the project had to be rolled out in phases to meet the timeline. The solution for the videowall and its control systems had to be scalable and integrate seamlessly with the existing broadcast infrastructure for content display and ingest.
Within the five-day period phase one was executed. It included the installation of 6 Samsung UD55E-B displays in a 2x3 configuration in landscape, rigged with a Samsung Wman 46 VD mount.
The video wall was connected to the master control room via 4K HDBaseT technology. To match the SD broadcast format in the control room, content in the media server was down-converted in one stream while maintaining full 4K resolution for the videowall.

When completed, the studio will be well able to cater for all programming needs, fitted out with up to 28 Samsung UD55E-B displays in varied orientations and layouts and a 56” interactive touch screen display with KVM/IP control room interface.

It was a delight for both the client and the team when the studio went live on the election day with their new display and control technology. The studio upgrade won the affection of thousands of viewers , who took to social media to congratulate the channel on its new look - a very big step away from the previous print scenic.
