As part of efforts to redesign the studios for GBC News in time for the 2020 national elections, the engineering and technical department were looking
for solutions that offer dynamic, large format graphics, high definition content display and an easy-to-use interactive user interface.
The entire project from design to install to deployment had to be executed in 5 days. This solution would have to be scalable, able to offer changes on the fly
and have the capability to be remotely controlled from the master control room.
Bearing in mind these critical requirements, our AV design team came up with a modular turnkey solution which is easily scalable for future expansion of the studio,
and also offering multiple use through segmentation.
The final solution offered a large curved videowall display of twenty 55” Samsung UD55E-B displays, in a 10 x 2 configuration mounted in portrait on a custom fabricated
mounting rig.
The rig was designed to hold two screens in portrait, and also allow each individual screen to pop out for service and retract back into position.
Each pair of screens formed a modular unit which was then carefully arranged to form the curve.
Also installed was a 75” interactive display (Samsung QB75N-W), which allows four concurrent touch points, providing a large enough screen for interactive infographics,
remote correspondence video calls and particularly, also allowing presenters to navigate the specially designed elections reporting interface.
The unit was installed on a heavy duty motorized lift/tilt cart. This offered the dynamic use of the touch screen both as an upright display or converted to a touch table.
All the displays were connected via an HD over IP interface, with the exception of the touch screen which was connected over connected via KVM over IP.
All the connections run up to 70m, allowing sufficient cable run for when the studio layout needs to be changed.
